Meridian Foods ‘Natural’ range

Posted in Store cupboard ingredients, Uncategorized by BobD

This range of foods are allegedly ‘Natural’; however, they contain ’sulphur dioxide’ and ‘citric acid’, neither of which can be claimed to be natural.

e.g. the ingredients for Morello Cherry ‘Natural’ Spread are as follows:

Grape Juice (60%) [Contains Preservative (Sulphur Dioxide)], Morello Cherries (37%), Gelling Agent (Citrus Pectin), Acidity Regulator (Citric Acid)

    I hate being mislead!

  • Citric acid and sulphur dioxide are natural…found in nature all over…some technical names are misleading, but completely natural!

  • as above- Citric acid is natural (the clue is in the name) I use it in products I produce too- if you don’t use it the product could be compromised- its on the label- problem?

Use of the word Natural is actually covered specifically in Food Standards Agency Guidance, and this isn’t it.
