Baxter's Healthy Tomato Soup

How can they say it is healthy? I am sure it probably a health meal to eat.  To make a claim about health, however, they need to reference it against another product that is directly comparable to this product and explain why they think they is more healthy.

‘Healthy’, who says – it might be, but they need evidence.

  • For me this one is closer to Angel than Sinner. Baxters is firmly in the Mass Market. From what we can see on this photograph the brand is certainly not trying to ‘pull the wool over anyone’s eyes’. They are taking intrinsically ‘healthy’ ingredients (Tomato and Lentils) and while I can’t comment on other factors (e.g. salt content) it seems to be a ‘healthy’ choice vs some other soups within the category (which may contain relatively more cream / chicken fat / etc.). We could say that it’s going too far to label the combination as ‘healthy’ but then we could also comment that for the mass market consumer this product is helpfully signposting a relatively healthy selection from within the category. I’m not saying it’s perfect but on the evidence presented, there are FAR worse offenders on our shelves.

Brown lentils are a healthy food. By comparison to other canned soups and particularly Tomato soups it’s healthy.
