Meridian Foods ‘Natural’ range
Posted in Store cupboard ingredients, Uncategorized by BobDThis range of foods are allegedly ‘Natural’; however, they contain ’sulphur dioxide’ and ‘citric acid’, neither of which can be claimed to be natural.
e.g. the ingredients for Morello Cherry ‘Natural’ Spread are as follows:
Grape Juice (60%) [Contains Preservative (Sulphur Dioxide)], Morello Cherries (37%), Gelling Agent (Citrus Pectin), Acidity Regulator (Citric Acid)

PG Tips
How can PG Tips advertise that they are so into supporting the Rain Forest Alliance, when only 50% of the Tea is sourced from certified content. I wonder if consumers really realised this, whether would think that PG Tips are really just doing this as a marketing trick?

Look what we have found?
Well done ‘Look What We Have Found,’ clearly identifies the actual the producer of the main ingredient and their story about their farm.

Organic Smokehouse Smoked Salmon
This is a fantastic example of honest packaging. The actual producer is clearly pictured including their story. Where and how the salmon is farmed and smoked is also total clear to read within 5 seconds of picking up the pack. Great stuff Organic Smokhouse.
Scottish Smoke Salmon H Forman & Son

Smoked Salmon
Great looking pack, huge amount of effort and work in this, but the three types of cured salmon are described as Scotish Smoked Salmon. On the back, it clarifies that the salmon could be from countries other than Scotland. If this is the case, it’s not (in the eyes of the consumer) Scottish. Don’t use a country name in the product description if the main ingredient is not from that country.

Fantail King Prawns
What does ‘responsibly farmed’ mean? Who knows, no obvious accreditation system to support this claim.
Waterside Farm style Irish Pork Sausages

Waterside Farm
‘Waterside Farm’? ‘Irish style’? I wonder what water side these are really reared near and whether they are even made in Ireland using Irish Pork? Too vague, and too many questions that need to be answered!
Cumberland Sausage

Cumberland Sausage
Most consumers think these are made in Cumberland? Unlikely, Country of origin is declared as just EU. Customer names are one thing, like Sheppards Pie, (which does not include any Sheppards!) but provenence is important to consumers, if you imply it’s from a place it had better had be!

Irish Recipe Pork Sausage
These ‘Irish recipe’ sausages confuse me! What is an Irish recipe, there is no explanation on the pack and no defined country of origin, other than the EU registration logo. I asked a Tesco member of staff where they where from, they said, ‘Ireland, probably,’ – who knows?
